Creating Self-Portraits
Second graders are being introduced to the artwork of Frida Kahlo. They are learning about proportion as well as the different techniques on drawing themselves. I have teamed up with Mrs. Murray, our school counselor, on journaling about feelings and emotions. So far -WOW!!! They are spending 5 minutes every art class drawing about how they feel, what they are thinking about, and where their happy places might be. They are getting into the "warm ups" and working oh so quietly. I love this lesson. Stay tuned to see how we will be incorporating those warm ups in our final works. |

Clay Inca Masks
For the first 9 weeks in art, we are being introduced to the Inca civilization. We are looking at some of their golden masks that they created. Currently we are busy making practice sketches using geometric designs and symmetry to create the perfect Inca mask.
|
Here are the first sketches for our Inca masks. These will be created in clay, but first we must sketch as many ideas as we have time for! Here are a few great examples!
