Radial Designs
Third graders are working on radial balance designs. WOW! They get quiet when working on this project! This is very calming work. Student really get into that artistic trance while creating these. Students start with a "plus" axis and then add designs on an "X" axis and repeat. The students are naturals at this. Check out some of their practice designs and get ready for their final designs soon.

What's In Your Whoville?
After reading, Dr. Seuss' "Horton Hears a Who" we decided to invent our own Whoville. Each student is creating a landscape with various Seuss styled structures. They are working on overlapping in addition to the Seuss style. The creativity is just oozing in 3rd grade this year. This is just the first step of the overall project. Our goal is to have this painting as a standing background while creating 3D structures as a middle and foreground as well. We are creating a mixed media project. Stay tuned for more updates!

Robots
Being a third grader is tough folks! So tough in fact, these kids needed to invent some ideas for robots to make their lives a little bit easier. Each student had to invent a robot that would do something to help them out, or make their lives easier. Ummm Like a "homework" robot! I mean, who wouldn't want one of those? After they invented the idea they had to then list different tools that the robot would need. Following that they got the opportunity to create their designs out of cardboard that was painted in various metalic colors. Check out their designs.

Landscapes with Intermediate Colors and Depth
For this 9 weeks in art we are learning about the color wheel. We have learned how to make our intermediate colors: red-orange, red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green, yellow-green and yellow-orange. We are also in the process of learning how to create visual depth on a 2D paper. Some of the different techniques we are working on are overlapping, background, middle ground and foreground. Once we've gotten that down, we will be creating an original landscape.
